this place anyway? (Town

If you already know about CB, then we're preaching
to choir, but otherwise....
What's so special about
this place called Crested Butte?
If you're unfamiliar with Crested Butte, it
is a true mountain town Shangri-la.
At roughly 4.5 hrs and a couple of Mtn passes
from Denver, it's not the easiest place to
get to, BUT that's what makes this place so
special. Called one of the last true Colorado
Mtn towns, this place is a real diamond in
the rough! Easier than driving from Denver,
you can fly direct to Gunnison from many cities
across the country - then you're only a short
35 min drive (no Mtn passes) to Crested Butte.
Little known fact: Gunnison has the second
longest runway in CO after Denver International.
So, forget the unpredictability of flights
into smaller (and more weather effected) airports
like Aspen and Telluride. The regularly scheduled
jet service is very dependable and convenient.
You won't find the weekend warrior crowds
or the Aspen glitz here, instead you'll immediately
feel relaxed and at home in a place that defines
down to earth. This is a town where you'll
find local ski bums and wealthy second home
owners chatting over a beer without ever knowing
which is which. To come to Crested Butte is
to get away from it all and get back to the
basics. A tightly knit community at ~1500
full time (in-town) residents, the charm and
smiles are everywhere.
Being in a small Mtn Town doesn't mean you
have to suffer either! Looking for good food?
You will be amazed at the countless eateries
in town and on the mountain that offer delicious
food. From outrageous tamales to gourmet French,
you will find everything here to satisfy your
palate. Looking for a place to enjoy a drink?
A world class Margarita, Bloody Mary or pint
of IPA? No problem. How about a glass of Reserve
Oregon Pinot... yup, it's all right here.
Music, dancing, lots of shopping all at your
fingertips in this post card perfect town.
Oh, you say you're
active?
Let's get down to business now... after all,
this is why you're coming to Crested Butte,
right?
Wintertime offers some of the most outrageous
skiing in the country. Feather light powder
coats The 'Butte, opening up miles of legendary
skiing and boarding. From endless, sun drenched
groomed cruisers to some of the most extreme
terrain out there (US Extreme Freeskiing Championships
are held here), you won't be bored on this
mountain. In addition to the resort itself,
the local mountains offer some incredible
backcountry terrain for those seeking a true
adventure. Maybe you're in the mood for a
breathtaking cross country tour? The Nordic
center in Crested Butte has miles upon miles
of groomed trails and even offers full moon
trips. Hop off the back deck, and you're on
the x-country trail - no driving! Snowshoeing,
horseback riding, winter fishing are just
a few others to mention.
They say you come for the winter, but stay
for the summer...
Crested Butte explodes with beauty and activity
when the snow gives way to the long summer
days. The wildflower capital of the state,
you will be hard pressed to find a place more
spectacular. Some of the greatest Mtn Biking
in the world is at your fingertips here (all
out your front door) - you couldn't even exhaust
all the great riding in a single summer. Featuring
Fat Tire Week, the longest running bike festival!
Looking for some road riding? The sky is the
limit with the numerous epic rides, spanning
multiple mtn passes. Golf, fly fishing, backpacking,
horseback riding.... or just lounging in the
sun w/ an afternoon dip in one of the countless
nearby lakes.
